Reader Question – What kind of jobs could I look into with little job experience?

Many of you like the questions and answers on this blog. I just found another one from ‘Brian Wong’ who asks

Hi,I’m 21 with little job experience, not a college grad. I have worked for an IT company on contract for 2 contract terms as an assistant. (knew the vice president, but it is a legitimate private limited company), doing basic data entry and re-entry, some networking, flight bookings, general assistant stuff, also some creative elements and such. I’m looking to work a little more mainstream. Fast food is a last resort, the environment just seems dismally less than human. I was looking at a company called homeinstead that offers no experience jobs as a caretaker for seniors. This is a franchise though and most of these franchises have bad reviews so I am not sure of it.Any other options/suggestions? I don’t mind the bad environment in terms of yelling bosses and customers at fast food, im a vegetarian and the grease and smell is a no-go for me. I do want something that involves more physical and less intellectually stimulating working, and with more co-workers, so I am not interested in being a librarian or something similar. Also, wage is not an issue currently. I will work for NGO or non profit orgs as well.thanks

Answer: If you’re a vegetarian, why not work at a supermarket? Especially a whole foods one, where a greater emphasis is placed on organic foods. The most you’ll be doing is stocking shelves, rearranging foods, etc. Way less degrading of an environment than in fast food at 21 years old.If that doesn’t remotely satisfy you enough, work in retail/fashion/clothing.
